CADRE will be forming another Large Rudimental
Competing Ensemble in 2006

Background

In 2006, CADRE (Heritage Hands, Toronto) plans to enter a rudimental drumming group into I&E (Individual & Ensemble) competitions with its "boy in a red shirt" performance piece - arranged for hi-tension snare and rudimental bass drums.

Competition

One of the annual highlights is the DCA World Championship competition (Labour Day, Scranton, PA, USA).

The DCA regulations allow a maximum of 12 playing members in the Individual & Ensemble "Membrane" section (i.e. drums vs. mallet instruments). Allotted time is 2 - 4 minutes (the CADRE composition is 3 minutes, 19 seconds).

Openings and Auditions

Of the 12 allowable drummers under DCA Rules, we're planning to carry-forward the 2005 ensemble membership of 7 snare drummers and 3 rudimental bass drummers - as well as add additional playing Members.

Accordingly, we would be pleased to audition drummers interested in playing either Snare or Bass Drum.

Rehearsals

With the understanding that "the best prepared groups win", and that we have members coming from different geographies, we are scheduling rehearsals on a monthly basis - plus rehearsal sessions coupled with performance opportunities.

Naturally, we encourage and rely on local groupings of drummers to get together in addition to the full-ensemble rehearsals.

More frequent rehearsal dates will be arranged to suit everyone's schedule for June, July and August.

Winter Program

In 2005 - 2006 there will be a Winter Program designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of the I&E Members (package distributed separately).

What's required?

Although primarily Toronto and Hamilton-based for rehearsals, anyone is welcome to audition for the 2006 CADRE Large Rudimental Competition Ensemble.

In addition to being a CADRE Member in good standing, the overall criteria for CADRE I&E playing members are the abilities to:

  • Learn the drum scores "on your own" with a minimum of assistance.
  • Commit early in the season to the completion of the project.
  • Attend ensemble rehearsals as scheduled in the designated locations (Hamilton & Toronto).
  • Perform at a high level so that ensemble get-togethers are true "rehearsals" vs. "practices".
  • Provide your own modern drum in good condition - either bass or snare drum (at the moment, we have 1 snare drum - from our matched set of 8 - that is available for sale to a prospective snare drummer in our group). "1 man, 1 kit". You are responsible for the transportation of your drum!
  • Integrate well - and play effectively - in a high level musical team.
